Clubs and Organizations
Jesse Boyd Elementary School offers many before and after school clubs and organizations. Below you will find a list of those clubs and organizations as well as the club sponsor.
For students in 3rd-5th grade, this group is for students who enjoy running and living a more active lifestyle. This groups meets once a week before school and occasional other days for special events. Faculty advisors: Kimberly Alverson and Kimbra Hawkins
These groups meet during lunchtime with various members of the faculty. Teachers nominate students for these clubs which rotate every six weeks.
MORNING FITNESS CLUB AND AFTERNOON INTRAMURALS
For all students, our PE teachers provide one morning per week for each grade at 7:30-7:50 for a before school program to get moving and have fun with some exercise. 4th-5th grade students compete in intramurals on Tuesday afternoons from 2:45-3:15, on the dates indicated by a letter from Coach Brabham when the students are invited to participate. The sports change quarterly. Teacher sponsor: Kevin Brabham.
Each year JBE produces a school wide musical. Tryouts begin in October and practice is held one to two times a week after school from November until February. Faculty sponsors: Dale Fischer and Jonathan Duvall.
Students in 5th grade meet afterschool and learn how to use different forms of media. Faculty sponsor: Carrie Shoolbred
Students in grades 2-5 participate an afterschool club that teaches students about various countries, their traditions, their cultures, and their languages. Faculty sponsor: Jennifer Barker
RECYCLING CLUB (THE BGG’S)
This club is for students in grades 3-5. This group meets once a week after school and assist the school in “going” green by collecting recyclable material from all classrooms and promoting recycling. Club Sponsors: Janet Davis and Tonya Brownlee.
KINDERGARTEN AND 1ST GRADE HELPERS
These students are 5th grade students who arrive each morning by 7:20am and assist our youngest students prior to the start of the school day by reading with them, escorting them to class, and opening car doors. Faculty advisor: Meredith Rose and Jonathan Duvall
More information will be coming soon on Art Club. During the 2015-2016 school year, JBE will have a new art teacher so our plans are not yet established for art club.
Our student council is our student’s government body. Representatives are elected by the student body. Members raise money during the school year in order to provide Christmas presents for needy children in our community as well as other service projects. Faculty advisor: Melody Nease
This group is open to students in 3rd-5th grades. This group holds practice each Monday after school. Our chorus is a very committed group of singers who sing at many events in our community and at our school. Faculty Advisor: Dale Fischer
These are 5th grade students responsible for our flag pole. Faculty advisor: Jonathan Duvall
TECHNOLOGY CODING CLUB
For students in 4th and 5th grade, this club will teach students the basics of website coding. Faculty Advisor: Wanda Greenfeild
These students are responsible for opening and closing doors during car pool each morning and afternoon. Faculty Advisor: Meredith Rose
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE STUDENT CONSULTANTS
This group is made up of students from grades 1-5 who assist in designing parts of our IB program. This group meets once a month after school. Faculty advisor: Mary Kay Deese
This club serves the Jesse Boyd facility by planting, maintaining, and improving the grounds of campus. Garden club is for students in grades 3-5 and meets once a week after school. Contact Sissy Bush for more information.
The club serves 4th and 5th grade students with an interest in engineering. The team competes in the LEGO league to solve a real world problem using robotics. Faculty Sponsors: Carrie Shoolbred and Marteis Harris
