South Carolina initiated School Improvement Councils (SIC) through legislation as a means of restoring the influential voice of parents and community members in public education. Each public school in South Carolina has a School Improvement Council that is responsible for planning, monitoring, and evaluating improvement at the school level through the following responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of the five-year school improvement plan.
- Assist in the monitoring of the implementation of the plan and evaluation of results.
- Assist in the writing of the annual updates.
- Write the narrative to the School Report Card in conjunction with the principal.
In addition to the South Carolina SIC responsibilities, the Jesse Boyd SIC is also working on school-wide initiatives with the following goals:
1.Outreach and Communications - to focus on support for public relations, transitions (particularly 5K), recruitment/registration and legislative awareness.
2.Academic Excellence - to focus on support in areas such as test scores, science, literacy, 5th grade Exhibition and mitigating effects of poverty.
3.Health and Safety - To focus on support such as school wellness policies, garden sustainability, active living resources and continue the implementation of the strategic plan of action to move JBE towards the a higher designation as a “Healthy School” - we are currently at the bronze level. JBE also is participating in the Healthy Eating Decisions program created by Wofford College
The SIC meets on the 1st Tuesday during the months of October, November, January, February, March, and April.
These meetings are held from 12-1pm in the school’s conference room.
Every September elections are held for our school’s SIC. Members are from our faculty and staff, parents, and our community. Members are elected from our parent group for a 2 year appointment. Parents interested in running for our SIC election, should show their interest through email to email@example.com Community members wishing to join the SIC are welcomed to call the school and speak to Meredith Rose or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
