Jesse Boyd Elementary School students participate in a number of tests during each academic year. Below is a list of those test and a little about each test. Measures of Academic Progress. MAP is given to students in grades K-5 in Reading and Math. These test are given three times a year. MAP is a computerized test that gives automatic feedback to the child and the teacher as to the students’ strengths’ and weaknesses in those two areas.
Dominie Reading Assessment. Dominie is an individualized test that is given to students in grades K-5, and 1st grade three times a year. Dominie tests the students’ reading levels in accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Other areas of the Dominie that are given are spelling, letter recognition, and literacy awareness.
These test are part of our gifted and talented recognition test. Students in grade 2 take the ITBS and CogAt in the fall of each year. Students in 3rd-5th grade take the InView in the fall of each year. Students in grade 2 take the Inview in the spring of each year.
English Language Development Assessment. This is a test that is designed for our students who have a native language other than English. This test is given in February and March of each year.
Palmetto Assessment of State Standards. These tests are given to students in grades 3-5th each year in the areas of writing, reading, math, science, and social studies. The writing portion of the test is in March of each year and the other areas are tested in May of each year. **At this time, due to testing issue with the SC State Department of Education, we are unsure of which of these test will be given in the 2015-2016 school year. Dates have not been made available yet.
Spartanburg School District 7 gives students three benchmark tests in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies throughout the year to assist our teachers in student acquisition of skills. These are used for instructional purposes.
Teacher Tests, Quizzes, and Projects
Each teacher will give students test on skills the students have been learning about in class. These are determined by the grade level teachers. Projects are also given to students to help guide demonstrate their learning as well as to help students develop critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity skills.
